2019 Newsletter, News (Howick Minor Soccer)

Thank you for registering with HMS! We look forward to a season of fun, teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Website – We encourage you to check it out FIRST for any information you may need.  Each team has their own page too so please look there to see if your coach has information posted there.  An added bonus is the opportunity to have your child’s team schedule/changes sent directly to your phone (text/e-mail) so that you remember their next game/practice.  Set this up from our website.

Coaches and Referees/Lines People – are always needed.  Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering for such an exciting role.  Referees/Lines people are paid positions.

Registration Policies – Parents and/or players are not able to request which team they wish to play on.  Players will be divided into teams by the Executive and coaches based on age, gender and ability.  The number of teams/division will depend on the number of players and coaches (no coach; no team).

Soccer Gear Requirements – Shin guards are required for all ages.  Soccer cleats are mandatory for U8 & up.  Players are expected to always bring their own water bottle and their own soccer ball to practices (identified with name).  Ball Sizes: KK, U6 and U8 – size 3 balls, U10 and U12 – size 4 ball and U14-U18 – size 5 ball.

2019 First practices – Practices will start on Thursday – April 18^th and 25^th at the Howick arena for U8-U18 divisions.  PLEASE MARK THESE DATES ON YOUR CALENDAR AS YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE A CALL REGARDING THESE PRACTICES.  Practice times scheduled for these nights are planned for U8 & U10 from 6:30-7:15; U12 & U14 from 7:15-8:00 and U16 & U18 from 8:00-8:45.

In all fairness to the team and coaches, if possible please plan your vacation time around these soccer tournament dates and the week of to ensure each team has sufficient players.  Tournament games are also played during the week leading up to the tournament and the Saturday.

Volunteer Help – All parents are required to assist with the running of the soccer club.  Your name will be put on a volunteer list when you sign up your child/children to play.

Fundraising – We will be doing a fundraising program this year.  You will be received information in regards to this early in the season.  We appreciate everyone’s efforts to keep our soccer fees affordable.
